Part of a coronavirus world includes avoiding the grocery store unless absolutely necessary, which means having to get creative with recipes when you can’t just pop out to grab a couple ingredients. This is how we ended up with orange-lemon margaritas – with no limes and only orange juice and lemons at our disposal, we decided to seize the moment and try something new.
I liked this cocktail as I love a good margarita, but the sweeter citrus gave it a bit of an Italian flavour (think: Aperol Spritz). I also typically don’t do a salt rim in my homemade margaritas, but feel free to add it if that’s what floats your boat!
Here is my recipe for 2 servings of orange-lemon margaritas:
- 2oz lemon juice
- 3oz tequila
- 1.5oz triple sec
- 5oz orange juice
- optional: frozen citrus
Pour the lemon juice, tequila, triple sec and juice into your shaker with ice, shake, shake, shake, and split evenly into two glasses. Garnish with some frozen citrus slices in lieu of ice cubes – no dilution and you get some extra flavour! Bonus: that’s the only frozen fruit that’s left at Loblaws anyway.
I personally used 1800 Silver Tequila and Cointreau because that’s what I currently have at home – though I am happy to use Cointreau, Casamigos would have been my tequila of choice if there wasn’t a line up to the liquor store.
